Today was the last day by the side of Lake Erie. So far the scenery was great but the weather while being at Lake Erie wasn't any good. And today it didn't start out any better, it rained for about the first two hours of today's trip. It seems like I don't have any luck with the weather at Lake Erie. Afterwards the sun came out for a while, until the clouds took over again, but at least it stayed dry for the rest of the day.

Today I didn't really feel like cycling, but I got on the bike anyway. None the less it took me a while to get on the road this morning. Once on the bike, I didn't really get into the groove and I had to work for every mile. The weather didn't really help either. It took me almost the whole day to get it going and to get comfortable on the bike. I guess, some day's you just feel flat.

For about the first half of today's trip, I stayed besides the lake. The scenery was similar to the last few days. I could see the lake every once in a while, but for the most part there were houses in between the lake and the road. In general the route went through residential areas, with lots of trees and houses besides the road. This changed as soon as I left the shore of Lake Erie in the town of Huron. As I left the coast, the scenery changed completely from now on it was farmland, less trees and I passed through less towns. As there were less trees and houses to shield me from the wind, I had to deal with some headwinds. Today was actually the first day I had to cycle against the wind. Throughout the last two weeks, I was generally shielded quite well from the wind. Luckily the wind changed direction after a while, so from that point on it came from the side and I could gain some speed again. For about the last quarter of the route, I stayed off the road and followed the North Coast Inland Trail, a separate bike path, until I reached Fermont,OH. In Fermont I left the Northern Tier route and cycled a few extra miles to find/get a room for the night.

Conclusion for the day:

Sometimes you just have a bad day.
