My
tenth day on the road and I reached my first milestone, the first
1000 km. So only about 6000 km left. Today was going to be a shorter
day with the destination Niagara Falls,NY. So I started not quite as
early as the last few days into this sunny day, but I still reached
Niagara Falls around noon.
The
route today was again completely flat, so it wasn't too strenuous. I
started out on the Canalway trail until I reached Lockport, from here
on out I had to go back on normal roads again. All the way to Niagara
Falls I was cycling mainly through farmland on busy roads. So the the
change from no traffic to a lot of traffic was pretty big. It took me
a while to get used to it again. The worst part today was cycling
through the city Niagara Falls at the end of the route, there was no
shoulder to ride on, the road conditions were terrible and the
cars/trucks were passing me so narrowly. I was glad when I finally
reached the Falls. I spent the rest of the day, noon until the late
afternoon, at the falls. For today I stayed on the US side since I
didn't wanted to cross the boarder with my bike today. The Falls are
just impressive and if you have the chance you should definitely
visit. Since it is still early in May, it was also not that crowded,
which was nice.
In
the afternoon I check in to a really nice B&B in Niagara Falls.
If you are ever in Niagara Falls you should definitely check it out.
Thanks Jörg for the recommendation. I will spend two nights here,
since tomorrow is going to be my first rest day of the tour. Tomorrow
I will probably just chill a bit at the B&B and take a walk to
the Canadian side of the Falls. I will for sure not be doing a whole
lot tomorrow.
Congratulations for the first 1000km!!! You two (u & ur bike) look so great with Niagara fall background. Keep cycling and enjoy!
