Day 51 – Wolf Point,MT to Glasgow,MT

Date: 18.06.2018
Altitude: 823.5 ft (251 m)
Distance: 53.55 mi (86.18 km)
Total Altitude: 86384.5 ft (26330 m)
Total Distance: 3411.13 mi (5489.77 km)

Start into my 8th week on the road. The week started similar to the way the last week ended, with a short day on the road and mainly farmland/grassland along the way. It is my third short day in a row, but the towns along the way are just spaced like this and the only other option would be a 100+ mile day. If everything goes to plan, I will reach the Rocky Mountains at the end of the week. I'm really looking forward to that, I'm really getting tired of endless straight roads and nothing but farmland/grassland along the way. I'm really looking forward to a change in terrain and scenery This doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy my time in Montana or North Dakota but it gets a bit boring after some time.

I started again late into the day, because of the short distance I had to cover. But even with the late start I already arrived at noon in Glasgow,MT, due to the really nice tailwind, today. Would I have know that the wind would be such a great help, I would have started earlier and went to Malta,MT (my destination for tomorrow) instead. I wasn't sure if I would be able to check in the hotel, that early, but it was no problem. After check in I eat some lunch at the attached bar and had the chance to catch the second half of Tunisia against England at the Fifa World Cup.

The route today was again similar to the last few days, without really any highlights along the way. In comparison to the last few days, it was really flat, today. For about the first half I stayed on a smaller road (Indian Highway) with almost no traffic at all but than I had to switch onto US2, a road with lots of traffic. For a few miles leading into Glasgow US2 had no shoulder, so the last few miles into Glasgow were not too much fun. As mentioned before the route went again through farmland/grassland the entire day. In the beginning of the day the route followed the Missouri River, but it didn't go right besides the river. I was able to see the river a few times in the distance though. All in all it was a pretty uneventful day and because of the short distance and the tailwinds I feel like I haven't really done anything, today. Although it was not completely uneventful, since I met again some fellow touring cyclist along the way. I met a guy and his grandson doing the Northern Tier from west to east together. His grandson just graduated from High School and he was already retired, so they had the time to do the trip together. It was nice talking to them for a bit and I think it is pretty cool for them to do this trip together.

Conclusion for the day:

I'm ready for a change in scenery.
