After
all the rain yesterday and the day before, today the sun was shining
again. The temperatures though dropped significantly and stayed in
the 80s throughout the day. The temperatures today were way more
comfortable to ride in. Since I lost one of my water bottles on
Tuesday, I still had to manage my water and make sure I always had
enough to drink and stayed hydrated.
After
a great time in Long Lake, I had to get back on the bike today. It
was a really long day again, so probably it was good that I was well
rested. The first few miles were pretty tough, I had my difficulties
to get back into the flow. But the scenery and the route I took this
morning, made it easier for me. I stayed for about the first 10-15
miles on separate bike paths, so the ride was really enjoyable. I
passed a few lakes and went through wooden areas. The rest of the day
was not as pleasant and was quite a challenge. From Monticello,MN
(yes Monticello for the 3rd time) to St. Cloud I followed
a county road that stayed right besides the interstate, so the
scenery wasn't too nice. But the main problem was the wind. The wind
came throughout the day from the North so I had to cycle against the
wind for almost the whole day. That can become quite tiring after a
while. Especially if there aren't too many trees to shield you from
the wind. After St. Cloud I came bacl to the Mississippi river and
the route followed from now on the river more or less, but you could
see the river only occasionally. It wouldn't have mattered anyway,
since I didn't really take the scenery around me in too much,
because of the constant fight against the wind and the long distance
. I just focused on the biking and to keep going.
It
was really not the best day to have headwinds for the whole day. I
was really happy when I finally arrived in Little Falls late in the
afternoon and was finally done for the day. But I guess it was good
that I had the rest day yesterday.
Conclusion
for the day:
