It was a long one today and again quite hot outside. The route was the longest I covered so far on this trip. In order to cover the distance and arrive not to late in the evening, I got a really early start today. I was on the road around 7:15am.This gave me about two hours before it got really hot. Although it stayed warm the whole day, some dark clouds came in after midday and it rained heavily a few times. So after I stayed dry for many days now, I arrived soaked in Long Lake, today.

In the morning I switched over to the other side of the Mississippi and entered Wisconsin. I stayed in Wisconsin for about 20 miles before I came back over the river to Minnesota. The scenery on this part of today's route was similar to the last few days. Afterwards I moved westwards, away from the river and I was generally surrounded by farmland. I started my westward progress in Hastings,MN, where I could ride on some nice bike paths for a while. Afterwards I had to go on a busy highway until I reached Rosemount and went north into Minneapolis. All the way through the cities I stayed for the most part on separate bike paths. In the beginning I mainly went through residential areas until I reached the Mississippi river again. Here the bike path stayed close to the river and it was really green all around me. Unfortunately it started raining, just about when I reached the river. I still decided to take a first look at US Bank Stadium. The stadium is really close to the river, so it wasn't too much of a detour. I couldn't spend too much at the stadium, because I still had a bit of distance to cover, before I reached Long Lake,MN and there was some heavy rain forecasted for the late afternoon. The rest of the route stayed for the most part on bike paths, so it was a really nice ride through Minneapolis. I was surprised how bike friendly Minneapolis is. There are so many bike paths throughout the city and you see so many people on their bikes in the city.

As I mentioned before, there were quite a few cyclist riding their bikes in the city. On two occasions I got to talk a bit with some of the other cyclist. The first time I passed an older couple and they were asking where I was going. I stopped and we talked a bit about my trip and at the end they offered that I could stay at their place for the night. But I had to refuse, since I already had a place for tonight and also for the next day. I still was really thankful for the kind offer. At the end of the day a guy on his road bike came up to me and we rode for a while together and talked . It was nice to cycle for a few miles with someone else. Before we parted ways he gave me directions on the best way to reach Long Lake, since my GPS was out of power. The directions really helped, since shortly after we parted ways it started to pour down and it got really hard to operate my phone, to find the way. But I eventually made it.

Tonight I stayed for the second time with “family”, I stayed with my host brother Jason (from my time as an exchange student) and his family in Long Lake,MN. The second time after Long Lake,NY I stay in a town called Long Lake. I actually changed my route from the original route, so that I was able to go through Long Lake and able to see them. I will also spend my 2nd rest day here, so I will be here tomorrow as well. It is great to see some familiar faces on my trip and it was worth the long day on the bike.

Conclusion for the day:

It is nice to ride with someone else for a while.
