After I didn't had a good start in Montana and I didn't really enjoy my time in Montana so far, today was a really good day on the bike. It was again a short day with only a bit over 50 miles, so I was able to watch some of the Fifa World Cup before I got started on my route for the day, around 10am. It was cloudy, but the the sun was shining.

Although I didn't had to cover a whole lot of distance today it was still not an easy day. It was a constant up and down on the route and I had to deal with headwinds from the north throughout the day. The wind was not blowing too strong, so it didn't make too challenging but it was still noticeable. Even with the headwinds I made really good progress. Similar to yesterday, I stayed almost for the whole day on the same road (MT 13) and I really could have done without the GPS. The GPS was still nice to have, so I could check the altitude I had to deal with. On MT13 there was only a narrow shoulder to ride on, but since there was not that much traffic, that was okay. The scenery along the route was similar to the last days with farmland/grassland along the way. Just at the end of the route I came to the Missouri River and the route will follow the Missouri River tomorrow for a while. It was a really nice ride today.

At about the halfway point of my route for the day I met Larry and Frank, two touring cyclist going along the Northern Tier from west to east. We stopped by the side of the road for a while and talked a bit about our trips. Larry also told me, although it was light outside he could see my light from quite some distance. Good to know, that the light on my bike is visible so well. So I should be visible even better in darker conditions. After a few minutes we went our separate ways again. Later in the day I saw another touring cyclist in Wolf Point. I met him already before on my trip, on my detour to go to Montevideo. I met him on my route from Fergus Falls,MN to Paynesville,MN, the only day I went east on my trip. I didn't think I would see him again on my trip, I guess I must have made really good progress in the last 12 days.

Conclusion for the day:

Even a short day on the bike can be challenging, depending on the terrain and/or wind.
