First day of the 6th week on the bike. After I had three 95+ mile days last week, I started into this week with my third shortest route on this trip. It was either that or again a really long day and since I had a few issues with my bike I decided to do a short day. This gave me some time to work on my bike after I arrived at the hotel in Fergus Falls,MN. After almost 4000 km it was time to change the chain on my bike, probably a bit late. On my route tomorrow I will test it out, if everything runs smoothly with the new chain or if I need to go to a bike shop and get the pinion changed as well. On an initial test on the hotel parking lot it seemed to work just fine.

This morning I didn't really wanted to leave the hotel, the room was so nice and comfortable, the breakfast was great and the location right by the lake was amazing. But I have to keep going and there will be other nice places on my route, I'm sure of it. The really nice weather made it a bit easier to get going and it stayed like this for the whole day. Although the sun was shining throughout the day, the temperatures stayed at a comfortable level. So it was a great day to be out on the bike.

This morning I wasn't sure yet how far I would be going, so I left around 8 this morning. But after a few miles I decided to go for a short day, since the chain started to skip every once in a while. I decided to take a look at it at the hotel, after I arrived. Because I left early this morning and I didn't wanted to arrive too early in Fergus Falls, I took it easy today. I moved quite slowly and took the time to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. The scenery was again really beautiful. Just like yesterday I passed one lake after another during the whole day, but I also passed more and more farmland along the way. The route stayed on small county roads and even for some longer stretches on unpaved roads. I stayed for a few miles on an unpaved road/trail through Mapelwood state park. It was really nice in the park, cycling through the forest and along many lakes with no cars. In the park but not only there I saw quit a few deer today, but each time I tried to get my camera out they ran away. I really liked the ride today and it was nice to let my legs relax a bit. Still it was not all relaxing today, on the route I had to deal with a constant up and down. So even with the short distance I collected a few feet of altitude and had to work a bit for my progress.

Conclusion for the day:

I need to check my bike more frequently.
