Still in North Dakota but it is my last day in North Dakota, tomorrow I will enter Montana. Although I'm still in North Dakota I entered a new timezone, today. I entered the Mountain Timezone, so I got an extra hour and there are now 8 hours time difference to Germany.

It was again a beautiful day to be on the bike. The sun was shining and I had some tailwinds for most of the day. So it was great ride today. The wind during the day was a great help, and let me make some distance fast. The couple on their bikes I met just after I started for the day weren't so happy, since they were going east. They started in Bend,OR and will finish in Boston. The couple were not the only touring cyclists I have seen today, later in the day I saw an older guy on his bike. It seems the further west I go the more other touring cyclist I meet, since most people seem to go west to east.

This morning I started the day without breakfast, so I decided to get something to eat later on in the route. I finally got a late breakfast after about 40 miles into the trip, at a nice Diner in Dickinson,ND. The food at the Diner was great and quite cheap. Since I needed the energy for the the rest of the route, I decided to go for the steak with eggs and hashbrowns and a side of french toast. Since I had an extra hour today, I took my time before I got back on the road.

Today I stayed for the most part again on county roads/highways for most of the day with little traffic. Only around Dickinson the traffic got a bit thicker. But it was still not too bad. The terrain stayed hilly with a general increase in altitude for most of the route and went through grassland/farmland just as the last few days. With the the tailwind I didn't mind the slight increase in altitude too much. The scenery changed completely for about the the last 15 to 20 miles, when I entered the North Dakota Badlands. Medora my destination for today's route lies in the Badlands. I really enjoyed my ride through the Badlands. I didn't go on the Northern Tier route through the Badlands, since just before I entered the Badlands I decided to do a small detour and use a gravel road for the last miles to Medora. I used the gravel road, because the the Northern Tier route would have used the interstate again and just like yesterday I did not want to ride my bike on the Interstate. The gravel road was again in a great condition , there was only a short section that just got watered that kind of spoiled the ride on the gravel road. After this short section my bike, my panniers and myself were complete muddy, so again I need to find a place to clean my bike. Other than that I had a great day on the road.

Conclusion for the day:

Better slow down on a watered unpaved/gravel road or you and your bike will end up covered in mud.
