Third day on the Olympic Peninsula and it was a really sunny one. Still it was not too warm, the temperatures stayed in the mid 60s (about 18°C). This made it really nice to be outside. I still had to deal with headwinds, but just as yesterday it didn't impact me too much, because I was shielded by the trees from the wind.

The route today, was quite similar to yesterdays route in relation to the terrain and the distance. There was again quite a bit of up and down along the way, so the ride was not as easy as the distance would suggest. At least today there were not as many really steep climbs as yesterday. Still I didn't really enjoy today's route. The scenery was again fantastic, but after a few miles on a separate bike path in the morning, the rest of the route followed highway 112. The highway had for the most part no shoulder and heavy traffic, especially lots of logging trucks. This in combination with the winding road and lots of blind corners, made me feel uncomfortable and not too save on the road. A few times I got passed really narrowly by one of the trucks. I hope there are not as many trucks on tomorrows route or at least that the road is a bit wider with a nice shoulder.

In the morning I stayed on the the Olympic Discovery Trail. On the trail I met Ed who was riding his road bike on the trail. Ed stopped and started talking to me, while I was taking a break to take a picture. We talked for a while and than Ed joined me on my route for a few miles. After a few miles he turned off my route and I was back on my own, but it is always nice to be cycling with someone else for a while.

Conclusion for the day:

It is no fun to be cycling on a narrow road with heavy truck traffic.
