Date: 08.07.2018
Altitude: 1902.9 ft (580 m)

Total Altitude: 135203.4 ft (41210 m)
Total Distance: 4651.33 mi (7485.58 km)

First day back on the bike after I reached the west coast, my primary goal. For the first few miles it felt strange being back on the bike after Friday. I still had a great day on the bike although it was a pretty short one. My destination for today, was Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. I already reach Port Townsend at 1pm. So I had some time to walk around downtown before I could check in at the motel.

I started the day after a nice breakfast at the bowling alley across the street from the motel. I wouldn't have guessed that I could get breakfast at a bowling alley, but the guy at the motel suggested it. After breakfast I started my route to Port Townsend. The route was pretty different to what I had anticipated. I had to deal with quite a bit of up and down along the way, and the climbs were short but pretty steep. This made today a bit harder than expected. The scenery on my way was fantastic. Going through forests and with some great views along the way. Today I couldn't do the whole trip on my bike, because I had to ake the ferry for the last 6 miles from Keystone to Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. So today I had only 35 miles on the bike and than about 6 miles by ferry. From the ferry I had only short distance left to the motel. Port Townsend is a really nice little town at the coast. I didn't bike through town and instead left the bike at the motel and took a stroll through downtown. After I came back to the motel, the room was ready and I could check in. I was not really exhausted when I was finished for the day, but it is actually quite nice and relaxing to only bike for a few hours.

Conclusion for the day:

Being at the coast, doesn't mean it has to be flat.
